Chamber Chairman: Strengthening Regional Partnerships through the Bahrain-Saudi Business Council
The Board of Directors of the Bahrain Chamber held its second meeting of the 31st term this morning, chaired by Nabeel Kanoo, as part of efforts to strengthen institutional operations, enhance performance and decision-making, and further advance the Chamber’s role in serving the private sector.
Kanoo, on behalf of himself and the Board members, expressed his appreciation to the members of the Ordinary General Assembly held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, for their attendance and constructive participation. He noted that their engagement reflects the importance they place on the Chamber and their commitment to contributing to its priorities and direction during the 31st term.
The Board approved a number of decisions aimed at strengthening the Chamber’s institutional framework. These included establishing a Committee Coordination Group tasked with developing recommendations on committee mandates, structures and working mechanisms, as well as proposing clear criteria and timelines for selecting committee chairs and members. The Board also stressed the importance of expediting the formation and restructuring of sectoral committees to ensure comprehensive representation of Bahrain’s economic sectors and more effective communication of private-sector views.
The Board also approved the reconstitution of the 31st-term Advisory Council, bringing together experienced business leaders and prominent figures whose expertise and insights will support the Board’s work and contribute to stronger decision-making and a more effective business environment.
As part of strengthening cooperation with government entities, the Board approved the reconstitution of the Joint Committee with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which serves as an institutional platform for addressing economic issues and developing recommendations related to the business environment, legislation and national economic competitiveness.
The Board further approved the reconstitution of the Bahraini side of the Bahrain-Saudi Joint Business Council, reflecting the Chamber’s commitment to strengthening economic relations with regional partners and expanding opportunities for trade, investment and joint ventures.
In the area of governance and transparency, the Board adopted a compliance framework outlining the responsibilities and obligations of Board members, reinforcing institutional accountability and alignment with professional standards and best practices.
The Board also approved the formation of the 31st-term Internal Audit Committee and expanded its mandate to strengthen financial and administrative oversight and enhance the effectiveness of internal control systems. In addition, the Chamber’s representatives to several joint Arab and foreign chambers were reappointed, reaffirming its active presence in international economic forums.
Kanoo concluded by affirming that the Board will continue implementing its programme for the current term with a strong sense of initiative and responsibility, reinforcing the Chamber’s position as a key representative of the private sector and an active partner in supporting the national economy. He noted that the coming period will see further initiatives and decisions aimed at translating the Board’s commitments into tangible outcomes for Bahrain’s business community.
