Jameel Al Ghaneh: Stability in the Construction Sector Is Key to Sustaining Projects and Supporting Economic Growth

Board member of the Bahrain Chamber, Jameel Al Ghaneh, affirmed that the construction and contracting sector is one of the key drivers of economic and investment activity, given its direct connection to development projects, infrastructure, and urban development, as well as its role in supporting numerous related economic sectors.

Al Ghaneh noted that the sector’s importance is reflected in recent economic indicators, with the construction sector recording a growth rate of 12.6% in 2025, according to the economic report issued by the Ministry of Finance and National Economy. This reflects the sector’s growing role in supporting economic activity and development and investment projects in the Kingdom.

He explained that the stability of the contracting sector is essential to ensuring project sustainability and enhancing implementation efficiency. He noted that continued efforts to develop the business environment, improve the efficiency of procedures, and provide supportive enablers for the sector’s growth would strengthen its ability to continue contributing to economic development, particularly for SMEs operating in the sector.

He affirmed that enhancing procedural efficiency, developing working mechanisms, and providing a fair and competitive environment are important factors in improving project implementation efficiency and strengthening the ability of businesses operating in the sector to meet their obligations and achieve operational sustainability.

Al Ghaneh added that supporting small-scale contractors is an important aspect of efforts to enhance the sector’s stability, as they form an integral part of the construction and development project ecosystem. He stressed that the continued operation and growth of these enterprises contributes to maintaining market competitiveness and broadening participation in economic and development projects.

He pointed out that strengthening cooperation among executive authorities, the legislative branch, and financing institutions is an important factor in supporting the sector’s stability by continuing to develop procedures, enhancing the efficiency of working mechanisms, and providing more flexible financing options for SMEs, thereby contributing to project continuity and improving implementation efficiency.

Al Ghaneh affirmed that the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry is committed to strengthening direct communication with businesses operating in the contracting and construction sector and listening to their challenges and views, helping to formulate practical proposals that contribute to developing the business environment and supporting the sector’s sustainability.

He explained that the Chamber will continue working with the relevant authorities to study initiatives and proposals aimed at enhancing the sector’s efficiency and improving its business environment, in a manner that positively contributes to project stability and supports economic and investment activity.

Al Ghaneh stressed that the contracting sector is a key partner in Bahrain’s economic and urban development journey, affirming that enhancing its stability and operational efficiency will contribute to supporting development projects, stimulating investment, and strengthening the private sector’s contribution to economic growth.
