Nass: Global Challenges are Opportunities to Renew Economic Models, Strengthen Private Sector

Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber, Sameer Nass, emphasized the importance of creating an attractive investment environment, enhancing social protection, and developing youth skills as key components of the chamber's strategic plans. He noted that these priorities are supported by the government, led by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

In his address at the 113th International Labour Conference, which includes representatives from 187 member states, Nass highlighted Bahrain's commitment to fostering dialogue among governments, employers, and workers. He acknowledged the global challenges, such as rising unemployment and rapid digital transformations, as opportunities to stimulate entrepreneurship and empower the private sector in job creation and growth.

Nass reiterated that Bahrain believes social dialogue is essential for sustainable development and that the country provides a supportive legislative environment that protects workers' rights. He also pointed out that Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030 centers on competitiveness, sustainability, and justice—principles aligned with the International Labour Organization's goals.

The chamber's organization of the “Bab Al Bahrain Forum 2025” serves as a platform for discussing the future of employment and trade in the digital economy. Nass stressed the need for investing in human capital to enhance productivity and achieve sustainable growth.

He also addressed the situation in the Palestinian territories, stating that social justice requires ensuring rights for the Palestinian people. He praised the International Labour Organization's decision to change Palestine's status to a non-member observer state as a step toward justice.

For her part, ILO board member, Sonia Janahi,  noted that the Director-General's report, titled "Jobs, Rights, and Growth," provides strategic insights into the challenges facing the labor market. She emphasized the need for practical solutions to mitigate the impacts of economic changes and enhance decent work opportunities for all. Janahi also highlighted the importance of translating the report's recommendations into actionable programs that promote balance between economic and social dimensions.
